Judy's Donuts in Newbury Park: Best Stop on Our California Road Trip

I helped with the driving on our California road trip. I sat up front, kept watch, and occasionally reminded mama to stay focused by placing my paw on her arm at key moments. She may tell it differently. Either way, we made it.

Mama Had One Rule

Before we even left, mama had exactly one non-negotiable: we were stopping at Judy’s. I did not know what that meant at the time, but she said “Newbury Park” and “donuts” in the same sentence and I was immediately supportive of this plan.

Judy’s Donuts in Newbury Park, CA is a small, no-fuss donut shop that mama has apparently been thinking about for a long time. The kind of place with a short menu and a long reputation. We pulled up, she went in, and she came back with a box. I could smell it through the window before she even opened the car door.

Better Than a Pup Cup — and That Is Saying Something

I want to be fair here. The Chick-Fil-A Pup Cup is excellent. Cold, creamy, and always a welcome surprise at the drive-through window. And Chick-Fil-A nuggets are nothing to complain about either. I have high standards, and those meet them.

But those glazed donuts from Judy’s are something else entirely. Light, fluffy, fresh — the kind of donut that does not need anything extra because the glaze is already perfect.

Mama did not let me have the sugar glaze directly — I understand, she is watching out for me — but she pinched off a soft piece from the inside and handed it over. I handled that in approximately one second.

Then she had glaze on her fingers.

Worth Every Mile of the Dachshund Donut Trip
