The Wednesday Garbage Truck That Terrifies This Dachshund
Every Wednesday the garbage truck comes, and every Wednesday Zoey the dachshund is glued to her human's side until it passes.

My human helps me write my blog every day. Today is a little different because it is raining — and I mean really raining — so I am staying inside and working on my posts instead of patrolling the yard.
Here is the thing about rain and garbage truck fear: the rain is actually a relief today. Every Wednesday that truck comes rumbling down the street, and I have no idea why, but it scares the daylights out of me. I do not bark — I just need to be as close to my human as physically possible. I will climb right up onto a lap if I can manage it.
The Truck Always Comes on Wednesday
You would think I would have figured this out by now. My human has pointed it out more than once. Same truck. Same day. Same time. And yet every single Wednesday, the moment I hear that engine, I am done — I press myself against my human and stay there until the truck is gone and the street is quiet again.
Today though — nothing. The rain is so loud on the roof that I cannot hear the truck at all. It could have come and gone already and I would not know. I have been napping peacefully on the couch, which is exactly how Wednesdays should go.
The Garbage Man Said Hello
One time I was outside when the garbage man walked up to grab the can from the end of the driveway. Instead of the truck coming to me, the actual garbage man was right there. Up close. In person. And you know what? He said hello. Very nicely, too.
I was not entirely sure how I felt about that. I did not bark — I just stayed very close to my human’s leg and kept a close eye on him.
A Dachshund’s Life
This is what I write about on my blog — the real stuff. The things that keep a dachshund busy: the yard, the couch, the very suspicious Wednesday truck, and the occasional friendly garbage man. My human says I have a gift for finding drama in ordinary places. I think that just means I am paying attention.
Stay warm if it is raining where you are. I will be here on the couch.
