They named me Zoey. I am not entirely sure it was mama’s first choice, but it is the one that stuck. She still calls me Pumpkin sometimes — which is fine, I like pumpkin — and every once in a while Molly or Chloe slips out. Those were the dogs here before me, and I do not take it personally. They were here a long time and they clearly made an impression.
I also wear Odie’s collar. Daddy kept it after Odie went over the rainbow, and when I came along it fit me just right. I think about that sometimes when mama scratches my chin. A lot of love has gone through this house.
Where My Name Came From
Before they ever brought me home, mama and daddy probably did what most people do: they looked up popular dachshund names. And then someone said Zoey, and apparently that was that.

A Name Is Just the Beginning
